King Lear insisted keeping one hundred attendants and stayed with his second daughter Regan for a while. Regan turned down his request. She even behaved crueler than her elder sister. She thought he did not need fifty attendants, he'd better cut the number of attendants to twenty-five. Gonerial said, "Why do you need twenty-five attendants? Neither ten nor five are necessary. You can just share the servants in either my house or my sister's house." These two bad sisters seemed to compete the ill-treatments towards their father. They wanted to turn King Lear into a beggar under supervision gradually.
King Lear eventually saw the true features of his two daughters. At that moment he was very calm and said, "I don't want to cry though I have very good reasons for crying. I would rather let my heart break into ten thousand pieces but I would not waste one drop of tear." He commanded the attendants to prepare horses for him. Goneril and Regan did not listen to him any more and they went back to their home. Despite the heavy storm outside, King Lear commanded the horsemen to bring him out. He did not want to stay with these two rebellious daughters under the same roof.
